WEDNESDAY::
Coki cooked breakfast this morning, we ate it on our lanai - love the photo we tried to take of us eating breakfast - we forgot to look before we put the camera away. Mimi's first morning without all bran, fruit and yogurt!
Later we went to the famous North Shore so Mimi could see it and so Erik (He kindly took the day off of work to play tour guide for us) could surf some of the gnarly waves.....and they were gnarly!!! We were completely freaked by how strong the currents in the ocean were here....in fact Monique got leveled by a wave in mid-shin deep water (and mocked by a 7-year-old on the beach!) The intensity of the waves, however, was only half of it
.....[Note the BROKEN surf board!] there were TONS of sea turtles swimming right along the shore!!! Apparently the Native Hawaiians honor the sea turtles and consider them the "guardians of the sea". Knowing this fact did nothing to make Monique less terrified of swimming with them! Mostly Mimi and I stayed on the beach with all the other surfer chicks and waited for our surfer dude to come back to the beach. We'd like to take this opportunity to complain about the sun dowm here.....I guess us mountain/plains girls CANNOT get a tan from this island sun!! Tomorrow we are going to skip the sunscreen for a bit and see if we cannot get some color!
Here is surfer
dude and otherwise great guy and guide Erik looking ever the studly surfer!
Aren't they soo cute.....Mimi and I were hopelessly in love with these two!
Beach babes in action!
Hang ten!
It was a little too rough for Mimi, but she conquered her fear and went in anyway! Here Mimi is trying to seem calm while clinging to Erik on this only slightly calmer beach further down the shore!
OK I must interject here: the waves were NOT calm, as Erik tried to tell us. I do have a healthy fear of the ocean as most times I step in it, I get sucked under by something - and no, I do not turn my back to the waves...
We spent a nice quiet evening at home tonight...and Mimi finally had someone to get sushi with her! The sushi is $15 all you can eat, what a great deal! It rolls around on a conveyor belt thing and you pull off what you want to eat. Very good!!(Monique opted for a nutritious dinner at Baskin Robbins!)
