Karlovy Vary 9/6/00 - 9/8/00

.Us dining at the Pupp- Billy kindly bought roses..

ok so we made it to karlovy vary, also known as carlsbad. the drive here went very smooth. michelle has been an excellent navigator. the road signs can be somewhat confusing, but with our map and michelle's sharp eye we've yet to miss an exit or get lost. this town, karlovy vary is a clean, well cared for town. even though the history here dates back to the late 1300's most of the buildings are in perfect condition. we stayed at the grandhotel pupp. it is a very nice hotel that has catered to all the royalty of europe, as well bach, beethoven, mozart, pavlov, hitler and may others. the architecture is unlike any i've ever seen in the states, so i don't even know how to describe it. hopefully some of the pictures will show up on the page. we still have trouble downloading and retrieving items involving the internet for all sorts of strange reasons. anyway we did get to soak in the hot springs and played a little golf, although we couldn't actually play a round because the czech-republic team had some sort of big tournament, we did hit a couple of buckets of balls. the food thus far has been hit or miss. sometimes we have really good regional or sometimes international food, and some days i think about all the healthy food we're missing out on in boulder. the breakfast buffet and our dinners have been fantastic in the grandhotel pupp. the dining room is truly fit for a king - awesome! Here is Cliff looking at the impressive wine list in the restaurant.

while strolling through the town, no need for a vehicle here, we encounter a number of hot springs. buildings have been created around these springs in which encourage you to sample the water as it comes directly from the ground via a faucet. for this, small sipper cups are sold on the streets . unusual , ornate cups, hard to explain, but a fun ritual. we've enjoyed our stay here so much that we decided to stay an extra day. Some of the 12 springs are housed in this arched building and the one above.

Strolling down the street in Karlovy Vary, what a great place!

next we're off to erding, germany, near munich. it is here that cliff has some long time friends that we will be visiting. that's it for now.., billy and michelle, cliff
